German Leprosy & TB Relief Association - India

German Leprosy & TB Relief Association – India (GLRA-India) is an International NGO dedicated for Leprosy and TB. The organisation was established in 1957. GLRA India works in partnership with about 58 NGO project partners. GLRA-India works for National Leprosy Elimination Program (NLEP) and the Revised Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) in collaboration with GOI, different State governments and NGO project partners.

The organisation has its HQ at Wurzburg, Germany, Central Office for Indian operations at Chennai, and has 3 Regional Offices, viz, Southern (including Western India), Northern and Eastern. The Medical Coordinator for Southern Region has his own office attached to the Central office. He has a small team of Admin/ supervisory staff to assist him in his work. GLRA India is looking for a suitable candidate to the above position and s/he will have the following roles and responsibilities:

Roles:
 Medical Coordinator – Southern Region will lead, guide, and coordinate the medical activities of the Southern Regional Secretariat and its team (approximately 90% of work time)

 Gives assistance to the National Medical Advisor / Director in activities relating to ILEP (umbrella organization for all International NGOs working for Leprosy) coordination in the Southern Region as well as in other states. (approximately 10% of work time)

Reports to:
National Medical Advisor [NMA]

Basic Qualification Expected:
Medical Graduate from a reputed institution

Higher Qualification Preferred:
Post graduation or diploma in Public Health, Community Medicine

Languages – Must:
English and Tamil


Additional Languages – Preferred
Other South Indian languages and Hindi

Minimum Requirements:
5-8 years in an International / National / Health organization in managerial capacity, experience in managing people and projects, writing project proposals; adequate communication skills (also in an international context)

Responsibilities

1. Government Support

 Liaises with NGOs and Government involved in delivering Leprosy/RNTCP Tuberculosis services in South India comprising of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala and ensures that the program is being run as per the national guidelines and helps coordinating with the State Program wherever necessary.
 Liaises closely with the SLO and STO to develop the state plan of action for those states where GLRA is the State coordinator. To liaise and collaborate with different State Governments of the region to provide support to leprosy/TB activities.
 Offers technical guidance for the NLEP/RNTCP as per the requirements of the Government and provide training and refresher course to enhance quality in services.

2. Project Support

 Extends necessary guidance to the projects/programs in planning and implementation which is in line with NLEP/RNTCP.
 Visits the project partners as per need with prior planning, to monitor the activities in person and to offer appropriate guidance to rectify the lapses and to improve the performance.
 Controls and assists in planning of activities and budgets according to reported results of GLRA supported projects; advices on reporting of partners.
 Guarantees that quality standards of medical care are met in the different projects
 Initiates innovative practices that contributes to the prevention of Leprosy, TB, and TB-HIV
 Records and disseminates the best practices of GLRA and its supported projects
 Develops medical aspects of community based rehabilitation (CBR) program of GLRA and liaise with CBR advisor of GLRA
 Monitors the progress of GLRA supported work with NGO projects located in Southern and Western India and ensure its dissemination during the annual regional review meetings (RRM)
 Leads the State ILEP coordination for GLRA in Tamil Nadu and coordinate with other ILEP agencies in Tamil Nadu

3. Duties within the organization

 Participates as an active member and contribute in the Technical Expert Forum (TEF) meetings of the organisation
 Acts as technical resource person for GLRA and represent GLRA in various technical forums
 The candidate is encouraged to undertake Operational research and disseminate its findings in journals, wherever such OR is undertaken
 Participates in assessment/evaluation of projects/special programs as per the needs of the organization, with in the country and abroad.
 Organizes meetings, workshops, seminars and orientation courses involving Government and NGOs, and Medical Colleges as and when need arises.
 Facilitates planning and to act as a resource person in different IEC campaigns as per the requirement of German Leprosy & TB Relief Association – India
 Takes up any other task assigned by the CEO / Dy.CEO / NMA from time to time.
 Works in close coordination with CEO / Dy. CEO / NMA in the respective areas of operation and need based consultations with medical advisors and social advisors from other regional offices.
 For day-to-day Technical activities, the MEDICAL COORDINATOR Southern Region will report to the NMA and for administrative and financial purposes reports to Dy.CEO/Director (Finance & admin).

Remuneration Offered
According to the Salary scales of GLRA India and this will not be an to the impediment the right candidate
