Regional Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) Officer

Location: Guwhati

Under the direction and supervision of the Regional Project Manager, the Regional BCC Officer will be responsible for development/ customization of the BCC strategy, as appropriate and in line with that of the national programme; and planning, managing and tracking implementation of BCC in close coordination with the National BCC Officer and other team members.

 

Specific Responsibilities

 

·         Provide support in carrying out research/assessment, as necessary, to understand the knowledge, awareness, beliefs and practices at the community level about malaria prevention and control, motivational barriers and keys for adoption of appropriate practices at individual/ family/ community levels as well as constraints in community ownership.

·         Analyze effectiveness of different media in the field and facilitate focus on effective media and prepare a synthesis.

·         Assist in designing BCC/ social mobilization activities/ campaigns drawing from research/assessment that will have reach and impact on the behavior change.

·         Assist in designing messages and materials for use in the field for mid-media and inter personal communication in relation to prevention and control interventions and availability of services.

·         Support planning, implementation of BCC/ social mobilization activities as per the strategic schedules.

·         Participate in strengthening community leadership, community decision-making/ self-monitoring.

·         Liaise with partners for synchronization of different BCC activities/ campaigns.

·         Provide inputs for assessing effectiveness of the BCC strategy periodically, as necessary and provide inputs for modifications.

·         Organize/ manage/ coordinate capacity building activities in relation to BCC. Social mobilization at sub-national levels for effective implementation of BCC activities and use of BCC materials.

·         Assist in M&E of BCC/ social mobilization activities.

·         Visit field to exchange critical and technical information, monitor/ resolve/ support BCC/ social mobilization related issues.

·         Assist in knowledge building and knowledge sharing through dissemination of experiences/ innovations/ best practices/ success stories in relation to BCC/ social mobilization.

·         Prepare drafts on BCC/ social mobilization related content of the Annual Report of the project.

·         Perform any other duties related to BCC/ social mobilization aspects of the Round 9 project, as necessary.

 

Qualification and Experience

 

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, social sciences, or related field • 5 years of experience in development projects, particularly in public health domain (preferably related to malaria control) • Experience in providing support in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating BCC, social mobilization and advocacy components in development projects                Excellent understanding of the potential of different media, especially at the grassroots level for effecting behavior change • Proven familiarity with large projects, preferably GFATM and ability to effectively coordinate with the state government/ district health authorities and partner organizations, as necessary •  Understanding of social, economic, cultural and political context of the northeastern states.

 

Skills

• Conceptual, creative, analytic, presentation and advocacy skills • Ability to identify existing or potential problems and innovate solutions for varying situations • Track record of undertaking a range of tasks simultaneously, adherence to time lines and ensuring delivery of quality services and reports in addition to effectively engaging with partners and donors on BCC/ social mobilization • Demonstrated outstanding level of professionalism in providing support for BCC/ social mobilization, including ability to exercise good judgment, discretion, tact, and diplomacy  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English • Excellent interpersonal skills including professionalism and a cooperative attitude; • Ability to interact effectively, both outside and within the Caritas India; • Proficiency in standard MS Office Suite Applications (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with various counterparts by maintaining strong working relationships.

 

Length of Assignment


The assignment will initially be for two years (including six months probation), with the possibility of subsequent extension should Caritas India deem this to be desirable. 

 

Travel

Regional BCC Officer will be expected to travel extensively in the northeastern states of India and should be available for meetings with partners/ donors, as necessary.
