Senior Project Executive: Agriculture and Climate Change Adaptation

Grameen Development Services (GDS) is a Lucknow based NGO established in 1993. The organization works for the economic and the social empowerment of the poor and marginalized sections of the society in the poverty concentrated regions within Bihar, U.P. and Rajasthan. The core sectoral focuses include livelihoods strengthening, women’s empowerment and disaster risk management.

The organization is looking for a Senior Project Executive for its Disaster Risk Reduction based social and economic empowerment project being implemented in Maharajganj District of Eastern UP. The project is located in a flood prone area and regularly suffers from natural calamities like floods and droughts. Over the last few years, problems, particularly to agriculture based livelihoods, caused by the phenomenon of ‘climate change’ (manifested in the form of uncertain/irregular climatic patterns) is getting more and more pronounced.

The role of the incumbent will be to help evolve, and propagate, an agricultural package/system that helps increase the resilience and adaptability of the target households (small and marginal farmers) to the problems/damages being caused by ‘climate change’.  

 

 

The incumbent should:

 

 

 

¨        Be a Post Graduate in Agriculture preferably in Agronomy.

 

¨        Have a minimum of 3 years experience in designing and implementing field based Agriculture programme or agriculture based action research programmes.

¨        Preferably have basic understanding on the phenomenon of ‘climate change’.

¨        Have an open mind and ability to learn from own and other’s experiences.

¨        Have good interpersonal communication and training skills.

¨        Have experience in promoting/working with community based institutions.

¨        Have experience in liaisoning and networking with research institutions/agencies

¨        Have good data collection and analysis, documentation and reporting skills.

¨        Have ability to guide farmers based on the derived learnings.

¨        Have strong sensitivity to gender and women’s issues.

¨        Be able to drive a two wheeler.

 

 

Salary: Rs. 12,000/- per month consolidated, subject to TDS

 

 

 

The Job Responsibilities of the Senior Project Executive would be:

 

¨        To study the tradition coping systems/techniques of the community and also the modern technologies available at agriculture research institutions, needed to evolve the climate change resilient cropping package.

¨        To design, field test, finalise and propagate the climate change resilient agricultural package.

¨        Field implementation of the programme component- involving analysis of the situation; designing and planning field level execution strategies and activities; field level execution; regular monitoring and review; and preparing analytical reports.

¨        Designing and delivering structured training/capacity building programmes for farmers and agriculture extension workers.

¨        Networking and liaison with agricultural universities and research institutions.
