Organization Name: Public Health Foundation of India Company Profile:- PHFI, a Public Private initiative to build large scale human resource capacity in public health through its three pronged integrated charter of (a) establishing a network of 7 world class, India-relevant schools of public health & strengthening some of the existing schools (b) establishing standards for public health education through the formation of an accreditation agency and (c) strengthening research and policy in areas related to public health. Brief about project : London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in partnership with Public Health Foundation of India are setting up the South Asia Centre for Chronic Disease Research which will be based in New Delhi and is funded by Wellcome Trust UK. The Centre will conduct primary and secondary research on the causes, prevention and control of a wide range of chronic diseases. Job Description / Responsibilities: An information officer is required to work on specific projects in the Network. They will work under the direction of the Director and will work collaboratively with researchers supporting the information and data processing requirements of the Network. Specifically, (s)he will be responsible for: - Searching systematically for studies using Medline, Cochrane Library, PubMed and other electronic databases - Obtaining and copying scientific papers and other materials - Maintaining a database of publications using reference manager software - Search & obtain journal membership and order publications/documents according to research interests of SANCD (with an emphasis on free/open-source materials) - Maintaining and updating of data on the Network website - Providing an information awareness service for chronic diseases - Archiving, organizing and maintaining a library of existing collections of journals and books and supervising/monitoring access to staff - Search South Asian news magazines/papers for press releases on SANCD efforts, workshops, meetings and/or research initiatives and compile a collection for SANCD library - Designing data entry forms - Carrying out data entry for research projects - Liaison with other researchers in the South Asian Network for Chronic Disease - Assisting in writing scientific papers, reports and grant applications - Assisting research students - Inform colleagues of national and international conferences, workshops and meetings that would be of interest/relevance for SANCD staff - Help with organising national and international research meetings Teaching - undertaking appropriate training in teaching methods - providing co-supervision for Diploma and Masters level students - contributing to courses in basic and advanced information and search methods for short courses - Conduct periodic training on using reference manager software to SANCD research staff Citizenship - contributing to the general activities of the Network, Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and help promote the objectives of the Network - contributing to the management of the Network and PHFI as appropriate Any other duties that may be required which are consistent with the nature and grade of the post. Desired profile of the candidate: Essential - A background in health research - A degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (e.g. information or library sciences, archiving) - Experience of conducting literature searches - Excellent communication and writing skills - Training in website management - Ability to work well as part of a team and independently. Desirable - Library organisation - Search methods - Ability to maintain website pages - Familiarity with electronic publication databases - Familiarity with reference management software - Experience in data entry and design of data entry forms Compensation Offered: Salary will be according to qualifications and experience. The contract will be of one year’s duration, and will be subsequently reviewed based on performance.
